Deadline approaching for honors college scholarships
January 30 is the deadline for students to apply for honors college Study Abroad and Research and Creative Activities scholarships for projects and travel that will occur summer and/or fall 2015. For more information and application forms, please visit the honors college website.

Humanity in Action Announces the John Lewis Fellowship in Atlanta
The program will offer 30 American and European university students the opportunity to explore race and civil rights, immigration and Native American issues in the United States. This new program honors Congressman John Lewis, an icon of the Civil Rights Movement. Humanity in Action is proud to partner with The National Center for Civil and Human Rights to develop this important program and are deeply grateful to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for its generous support provided through The Center. 
Eligibility: Current sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as graduates from the undergraduate classes of 2013 and 2014
Program Date: July 5 to August 1, 2015, in Atlanta, Georgia.

John Lewis Fellowship

Vanderbilt University Research Experience for Undergraduates Program
The Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) is offering undergraduate students majoring in neuroscience or engineering the opportunity to work directly with VINSE faculty members and their research groups at Vanderbilt University. You will participate in seminars, workshops, outreach programs and more. Those who are awarded this scholarship will be given a $5,000 stipend, $500 travel allowance and room and board. Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Award (URCAA)
The URCCA is designed to support undergraduates from the College of Arts and Sciences in pursuing research and creative activity as well as conference travel. Click here for more information. Applications are due January 31.

Undergraduate Research Excellence Award (URE)
The URE is designed to support all undergraduates who wish to work with faculty who have externally funded research projects. Click here for more information. The deadline to apply is February 2.

Lemelson-MIT
Are you a student who has an inventive idea in the area of technology related to healthcare, transportation, agriculture or consumer devices? The Lemelson-MIT Program’s search for the most inventive undergraduate and graduate students to compete in the 2015 Lemelson-MIT National Collegiate Student Prize Competition is ending on January 30th. Click here for more information.

Southwest Michigan First Internship Program 
Connect with Michigan’s business community as an intern with the 2015 Monroe-Brown Internship Program. Southwest Michigan First is collaborating with the Monroe-Brown Foundation to offer college and university students funding and career experience in the southwest Michigan business community. Each student will have the opportunity to be awarded up to $3,000 in scholarships and wages and be placed at an internship site of their interest. Click here for more information. The deadline to apply is Feb 28.

Health Professional Shadowing Program
Shadow doctors, nurses, dentists or midwives abroad in March or April. Travel destinations include Morogoro, Tanzania; Iringa, Tanzania; Pula, Croatia; Warsaw, Poland; and Chiang Mai, Thailand. Click here for more information.

UM STAR Program
The 2015 University of Maryland, College Park, Summer Training and Research
(UM STAR) program is now accepting applications. The UM STAR program is designed to provide traditionally under-represented and disadvantaged undergraduate students with two consecutive summers of a 10-week research training and career development program. The program’s goal is to enhance trainees’ potential to become a biomedical or behavioral scientist in research areas relevant to preventing and treating cardiovascular disease. RISEUP
The Research Internships for a Sustainable Environment with Undergraduate Participation (RISEUP) summer internship program is now accepting applications for the 2015 program. RISEUP is a 12-week paid summer internship program sponsored by Wayne State University’s Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. Interns will work with a mentor to create a research project, and will be offered the chance to study multiple-stakeholder environmental issues in the Lake St. Clair-Detroit-River-Lake Erie corridor. Interns will receive a $4,000 stipend, an online publication of their results and a chance to compete for a prize by presenting their research at an undergraduate research symposium. The Institute for Shock Physics (ISP) Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
Washington State University ISP is pleased to announce a nine week, multidisciplinary undergraduate research program called SURE in the Summer of 2015 (May 28 through July 31). The goal of the program is to provide undergraduate students in the physical sciences and engineering the opportunity to undertake and perform hands-on experimental investigations of condensed matter phenomena at extreme conditions. This program includes a $5,000 stipend for the nine week session, free housing on campus and travel assistance for travel to and from Pullman, Washington (of up to $500). Click here for more information and to apply. The deadline for applications is Feb. 20, 2015.

Microbiology Summer Research Program
The Department of Microbiology at The University of Iowa is accepting applications for an intensive, mentored research experience for undergraduates interested in the biological sciences. The program will begin May 26, 2015, and end July 31, 2015. A $5,200 stipend and money for housing, food, travel and allowance are included! The application deadline is Feb. 15, 2015. Click here for details.

Capital Intern Program
Interested in a career in government? Lee Honors College welcomes all majors to apply for this four to seven credit hour spring internship in Lansing. Placements are available with state representatives and senators, Michigan Environmental Commission, research offices, judges and government agencies such as Homeland Security. Michigan Democratic Coordinated Campaign
Internships and Fellowship programs are available for students interested in learning the nuts and bolts of how a campaign works and helping to elect Democratic candidates from across the state. Hours are flexible, and no experience is necessary. Participants will learn how to run a local field program and a successful “Get Out the Vote” operation while networking within the profession. The Michigan Republican Party
The Michigan Republican Party is looking for interns who want to witness and learn the inner-workings of the Michigan Republican Party. Interns will work at the office headquarters in Lansing, and out of other regional office locations meeting elected officials, attending special “behind the scenes” events and more. Duties of interns can include but are not limited to: writing scripts for press releases, planning and staffing events, engaging in research, implementing grassroots strategies and more.
