Authentic Leadership

SOC 4950: The Innocence Project, spring 2016
(This course does not count as honors credit)

Students will explore the factors common in wrongful convictions, such as police and prosecutorial misconduct, plea bargaining, eyewitness misidentification, false confessions, the use of jailhouse informants, unreliable forensic evidence, ineffective assistance of counsel and the impact of race on these processes. WMU Higher Education Study Abroad to Malaysia/Singapore

WHO: Students interested in learning about global perspectives in higher education. This course focuses on higher education and culture in Malaysia and Singapore. The trip is open to graduate students; others, including non-degree and upper level/advanced undergraduate juniors and seniors, should contact the program director, Dr. Ramona Lewis.

WHEN: May 4-17/18, 2016 – Summer I

WHAT: A faculty-led study abroad tour through Singapore and Malaysia. This will be a 3-credit hour graduate course (EDLD 5890). We will visit institutions of higher education in Singapore and Malaysia and spend time with students, faculty and staff at various institutions. We will also visit cultural sites, meet with WMU Alumni, have some group meals and engage in reflection activities. On the trip students will conduct some readings, engage in the faculty-led activities, keep a reflective journal and submit a final reflection about their learning. Faculty leading the courses from the Educational Leadership, Research and Technology Department are Dr. Ramona Lewis and Dr. Eric Archer.

Student applications require transcripts (unofficial is fine), completing the Broncos Abroad application and a brief 500-word essay describing your interest in the program, how it fits your academic professional goals and what you can contribute to, as well as gain from, the other group members attending the trip.
