Any opportunity listed on this website can be used to meet the honors college volunteer requirement. If you’re looking for an off-campus opportunity, FOCUS Kalamazoo is always a wonderful resource.
FOCUS Kalamazoo is a Registered Student Organization that connects individuals and groups to volunteer with different non-profit organizations in the Kalamazoo area. Any individual may volunteer for any reason. The volunteer dates for this semester are:
- Oct. 23 at Rickman House from 3 to 5 p.m.
- Nov. 19 at Habitat for Humanity from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dec. 3 at Friendship Village from 10:30 a.m. to noon

The Air Zoo:
The Air Zoo currently has several volunteer opportunities, including: Data Entry Volunteer, Development Data Entry Volunteer, Education Volunteer, Membership and Information Volunteer, Receptionist, Restoration Technician and more! Tutor Time is an after school tutoring program that helps students from Winchell Elementary School with homework and reading. Tutor Time is located at the Evergreen South Apartment Complex and is available Monday through Thursday from 4 to 5:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 19. Volunteers may help as many days as they wish but we ask for a minimum commitment of one day per week. Transportation may be provided. Kalamazoo Jaycees (Michigan Junior Chamber)
The Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour provides history with a twist – delivering the weird, the haunted, and the historic stories found throughout Kalamazoo. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this event raises funds for worthy causes in the Kalamazoo community. Approximately $4,000 is raised each year and has benefitted the following organizations: Adopt-a-Family, Duffle Bags of Love, Animal Rescue Shelters, Warm Kids, Generous Hands and more! Volunteer Opportunities include: Oct. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Twelve volunteers are needed per evening. For more information, call Marjorie Carr Zippert at (269)267-1340.
