Community Service – Week of Dec. 5

Any opportunity listed on this website can be used to meet the honors college volunteer requirement.

College 101: Inspiring Students to College and Career Readiness:
The Hayworth College of Business has community service opportunities for students interested in volunteering for College 101 on Jan. 13 and Feb. 24, with two more potential dates in March and April. Interested students can reach out to student volunteer coordinators Kenneth Redman Chancellor and Abdullah Al Asfur.  The commitment will include orientation on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in 2350 Schneider Hall. Additional requirements include: 1) Training to become a College Positive Volunteer (a program through MI Campus Compact), and 2) Purchasing a copy of the book, “The Pedagogy of Real Talk: Engaging, Teaching and Connecting With Students at Risk” by Dr. Paul Hernandez for $15. The book must be read to gain an understanding of issues faced by at-risk high school students.  To learn more, visit College101: Inspiring Students to College and Career Readiness. Also view a video of Dr. Hernandez receiving an award for College 101, which helps to visualize the program in action.
